Queso Panela

Queso Panela is a typical Mexican grilling cheese - softer than halloumi or similar cheese. When grilled, it mostly keeps its shape and stays wonderfully moist.

Panela cheese is also often served fresh and sliced or cubed as part of a cheese platter or antojitos (appetizers). It can be enjoyed with crackers, tortillas, or bread, along with some salsa or pico de gallo. 

Grilling or frying panela cheese is a common preparation method. The cheese is sliced into thick slabs or cubes, then grilled or pan-fried until it develops a golden-brown crust on the outside while remaining soft and creamy on the inside.

Panela can be added to salads to provide a creamy, mild contrast to the fresh vegetables. It's commonly used in salads like the Ensalada de Nopales (cactus salad) or Ensalada de Jicama y Panela (jicama and panela cheese salad).
